Sony KLV-S15G10 15 inch LCD TV user reviews
I am a couch potato, I love television and television is important to me!
I brought Sony KLV-S15G10 15 inch LCD TV to upgrade my 13 inch (very old. It only had one input to connect a coaxial cable, no video/audio inputs that all newer television sets have, now.)
There is no cable box/or satellite receiver connected to this television. I am using an analog video signal. (Yes, I’m that one person that still watches a television set using only an outdoor rooftop antenna).
I have had my new Sony LCD television for less then a week but, trust me, I’ve logged many hours of television viewing to prepare this opinion.
Lastly, I have astigmatism and that basically means that I do not see as clearly or sharply as I should. My vision is 20/40 so I wear glasses for distance and driving.
Now that we have got all those housekeeping issues out of the way on to my review, let's begin. I purchased my 15 inch LCD Sony television from Circuit City and I received a free Polaroid DVD player and that was a nice unexpected bonus.
After months of researching about LCD televisions and reading the ups and downs I swung back and forth on my decision between a standard television and a LCD screen television after all, it is a costly investment. Size was the main reason why I selected the 15 inch LCD screen television. Because of the size and design of the screen I was able to upgrade from at 13 inch screen to at 15 inch screen.
Since I am only using an outdoor antenna, a VCR and DVD player on the machine. You can say that the television has hooked up to it the basics. I get a good quality picture, viewing the picture without viewing it through the VCR. Does that make sense? Let me explain, in case you do not. Remember back in the day, when you connected your antenna to the VCR and had to turn on your VCR and watch your television using the VCR remote, etc. Well I do not have to do that with my new Sony LCD T.V. Bonus!
I have read in other reviews that some LCD televisions have trouble producing true skin tones, or that tones are little yellow etc. I am pleased with the colorization. Is that a correct word for this opinion? If you are used to watching a standard television it will take some adjusting getting use to the LCD screen colors. I feel my Sony does well in this category.
I decided to purchase a Sony brand television because I have had good luck with Sony products and performance. I am a little worried about dead pixels occurring on the screen but feel that Sony, a leader in much of the new television technology would be the best investment. The television is an LCD WEGA. According to Sony it means the television will generate a fully digital picture with stunning sharpness and realism. The WEGA Engine system generates a fully-digital TV picture with stunning sharpness and realism, even from analog video signals.
The screen itself is good; you can view it from all angles of the room and even if you can not the screen is on a swivel base that tilts. So if you can view the screen from a spot in the room, you can tilt and or swivel the screen to adjust your view angles.
The features of the television that I like are that you can label your channels and video inputs. Labeling the inputs; are very helpful if you have more then one component connected to the television. The remote that is included with the television can function as a universal remote. I was lucky because I had a Sony VCR so; my new remote works with both my television and the VCR NOT the DVD player. And it could not because on the remote there's one button to use to operate the DVD/VCR, SAT/CABLE & TELEVISION. You can also program 8 of your favorite channels and you can hide channels that you do not want view while channel surfing. Programming your favorite or hiding/showing channels are very easy to do.
The television comes with a few sound features. You can use Mono or Stereo sound. It also has SRS WOW audio effect. Think Dolby sound on mini speakers. Another sound feature is Auto SAP. That feature equalizes volume levels, so there is consistent output between programs and commercials. I am sure we can all relate to the commercial that comes on that is 10x louder than the television program being viewed? The sound is fine however, let's face it, it is a 15 inch LCD television, so, the speakers are not very big. The sound is acceptable. The television comes with enough outputs so, to connect it to a stereo or additional speakers for better sound is an option.
Are you a gamer? Well, I can not speak to the gaming graphics capability and using it for gaming. I purchased the television only for viewing.
In addition to the price of the television, I purchased a protection plan for $109.99 from Circuit City that covers repairs and replacement of the television for three years. The salesperson informed me that LCD television sometimes get dead pixels in the screen. Included with my plan are home repair and replacement if the television can not be repaired. Hopefully, by the time my television develops dead pixels, if any at all I will replace this television with newer technology.
I am very pleased with my new television. It was definitely more then I wanted to spend on the television, however, I am satisfied that it is money well spent. "
The picture on the 4:3 aspect ratio screen is crisp and lively, with a native resolution of 480i on the 640X480 display. A 3-D digital comb filter eliminates almost all edge artifacts, and a special setting adapts the picture for video game viewing. Movies are also well presented, with reverse 3:2 pulldown conversion to rid the screen of uneven motion in action scenes.
The internal cone speakers produce only 4 watts of audio output, but the audio can be set to keep a steady volume level, and treble and bass are adjustable to user preferences. Other convenience features include three picture modes, memory for favorite channels, access to a program guide through the remote, a freeze function that activates a small inset window, and channel labeling.
The KLV-S15G10 is capable of linking to a number of associated components, as it provides two audio/video inputs (one on the side panel), two S-video inputs (one side), one component video input, one fixed/variable audio output, and one RF connector. It does not offer an HDMI, DVI, or PC input, however. The remote control is a universal model that has direct access buttons for two components, as well as a previous channel button that makes it a snap to flip back and forth between programs.
