Philips Magnavox 15MF605T 15 inch LCD TV user reviews

"If you want a decent small tv set and you don't pay anymore than your average PC monitor for it, then Philips Magnavox 15MF605T 15 inch LCD TV is a great buy. "

"There were several reasons why I decided to go with Philips Magnavox 15MF605T 15 inch LCD TV :
1. Previous experience with Magnavox televisions & other electronics.
2. Number & type of hookups on unit - 1 coaxial, 1 set of HD hookups, and 1 set of composite audio/video inputs.
3. Size of unit & base.

Positive points:
Overall, I was very happy with the television once I got it set up. It met all of my expectations, and the picture is pretty good. The sound is actually pretty amazing for such a small tv. I had read other reviews that said it sounded a bit tinny - the only time I experienced this was when I hooked my Dish Network satellite system up. This, however, was easily fixed by playing around with the smart sound settings on the television. The smart sound & smart video settings are great. There are several factory presets & then a personal setting for each so that you can personalize the sound & display. Once you plug in all of your cables to the back of your tv (by the way, it comes with a nice little elbow/extension for your coaxial jack to make it easier to plug in, which was a help)there is a nice panel to cover up the plugs & cables, but still leaves a hole for them. It helped make the back of the tv look a little neater without the jumble of cords.

Not really a negative, but not really positive either:
The only thing that is somewhat irritating about the television is that in order to turn the power on using the remote, you must first turn on the power button located on the front of the television. I don't know if this is something that is standard with lcd tv's, but it seems kind of a hassle. I suppose that the idea is to just turn that power button on & leave it, but if you do, a small orange power indicator light stays lit. It's really not that bright, unless you are in an otherwise completely dark room. Not a huge deal if it's in a living room, but this tv is kept near my bed, and I have difficulty sleeping if it's not really dark. I'm sure not everyone has this problem, but that's really the only thing I was not completely thrilled about with this television.

All in all, I am very happy with this purchase, and if I had it to do over again, I would do the same. "

"Philips Magnavox 15MF605T 15 inch LCD TV is mostly unusable without remote. Most new TVs are made that way today. Remote is not lighted. It has Sleep, Picture, Sound, format, PIP, CC, SAP Jump, and Source function buttons making changes very easy. All of these functions are available thru the Menu function, but it is mentally challenging that way.A lot of inputs - PC VGA/Audio, S-Video, Component/Audio, Composite/audioHeadphone output in rear. Why not in front?PIP works in PC mode only and has 4 window sizes available.Auto channel set is picky about signal quality and it did not preset all available off the air channels. Adding weak channels must be done thru a Menu function.Sound is sufficient but not outstanding. Sound function has 3 content presets plus a surround setting. Picture has 5 content presets. Both can also be set to Personal which allows setting all parameters to your desire - bass, treble, color, brightness, contrast, sharpness. Tint is always settable separately.Resolution is 1024 x 768 - response time is 16ms. This is not clear on a lot of sites. When viewing closer than 3 feet it is easy to see loss of detail on moving objects. Non-moving objects are sharp and clear. Too high color setting accentuated this. My personal picture settings are: bright 60; color 50; contrast 43; sharpness 19; tint 77Note that I have not tried HD content yet so TV is running at 1/2 its capabilities with 480i input and doesn't produce its best picture. For the price it is a good buy."
